House of Fusion in Marrakech, Morocco, is a 17th century ‘riad’ and residential cooking school, hosting culinary adventures in and around Marrakesh. It is located in the Medina, a five minute walk from Jamaâ El Fna Square and the Bahia Palace, and was established ten years ago by the zany, fabulous Australian, Edwina Isabel Golombek.

Edwina describes the House of Fusion as a hip Marrakech Riad for Gastronomes and a chic retreat, a gourmet eat and a sumptuous sleep! And so it is perfect for our culinary adventure next May.

For those of you who may not be familiar with a ‘riad’, it is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden or courtyard.

Consequently, each guest room in the House of Fusion has a view of the floral patio, an en suite bathroom with a shower, designed by Philippe Starck; there are complimentary toiletries. Guest rooms also feature Egyptian cotton bed linen. The property also has a hammam, and massages can be arranged.

Our amazing host and guide, Edwina has planned an exciting ten days of experiencing delicious local delicacies, Moroccan cooking classes, a visit to the largest traditional Berber market or souk in Morocco; cooking in a Berber village, a night in the wonderful atlas auberge, dinner under the stars in the desert, camel transport to the desert camp; she will take us to places not frequented by the everyday tourist. The itinerary is below.

Edwina has lived in Marrakech for ten years; she has local knowledge and has developed friendships during this time, living in her wonderful, exotic paradise.

The fee for the trip is 2875 euros per person in one room, and 2575 euros per person sharing one room.

Morocco beyond the Bay – our Moroccan Adventure  itinerary:

Day 1. Our arrival day. A warm welcome feast and wines and a mojito to begin our exciting 10 days. When we know what time everyone is arriving, we will plan what else we’ll do today.

Day 2. Today we enjoy a gourmet picnic along the tizn test, a visit to the tinmal mosque, a cocktail before dinner at the House of Fusion followed by dinner at Caid’s Hidden Palace, a nearby riad.

Day 3. A long half day cooking class, followed by lunch. A cocktail before dinner at the House of Fusion, then dinner with wine in a nearby riad.

Day 4. A pastry, b’stilla and soup cooking class, a lunch and dinner class, with wine and a walk to djmna f’naa after dinner for spiced tea and sellou.

Day 5. Cooking class in a berber village – traditional cooking over coals – a lunch class. We depart at 3pm for the tizn tichka pass and dinner, bed and breakfast in a fabulous, atlas auberge. The alcohol here is extra, as the auberge is licensed.

Day 6. We venture into the desert today to stay in an amazing auberge upon the sands for the night, with a pool, back-dropped by dunes. Dinner and wine under the stars.

Day 7. Off to a tribal desert outpost, for ‘cooking up a desert storm’ in pre-Islamic ovens and a 6th century courtyard kitchen. At 3pm we head back to the auberge where your camels await to take you on the 90 minute sunset ride to camp, where our tea awaits. Dinner and the night in the dunes. Today no alcohol will be served with respect to these wonderful desert people.

Day 8. Wake early for a pre-sunrise walk to the top of the dune behind your tent. Then it’s back on our camels to the auberge for breakfast and a shower before heading off to the kasbah for lunch and two nights. Dinner with wine in the Kasbah.

Day 9. After breakfast we head up to the gorge through amazing scenery, climbing the mountain by car, to descend into the remotest of villages, past walnut groves and into the gorge for a picnic lunch with wine. In the late afternoon we return to the kasbah for dinner and wine, and the night.

Day 10. Home to Marrakech with lunch along the way. Dinner with wine awaits us in the riad.

Day 11. Sadly a fond farewell…….
